The summer is fast approaching and with that comes the life’s blood of the tourist industry in White Rock, the tourists.

Businesses are challenged by the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 situation.

Before businesses are confronted by bylaw officers enforcing inappropriate bylaws that are not applicable in our current situation, let’s reset.

These folks are going to be trying to survive and it is my hope that council will bend over backwards to help these enterprises to survive.

It is also my hope that businesses will do their best to comply with common sense and current bylaws.

If it takes shutting down Marine Drive to allow tables and service on the street and offering a shuttle from other parking areas, or if it takes negotiating with the Semiahmoo First Nation for a reduced rate for patrons or other considerations, let’s make it happen.

This spring and summer are going to be a challenge for all, but let’s try to keep in mind it is for the good of the city.

Let’s be creative and innovative and have some fun doing it.

Barry Gaudin, White Rock
