While I prefer to only write about what I know to be fact, I am going to go out on a limb and speculate about this one.
Hear me out!
The railway company that owns the bridge wants to increase train traffic through our area – trains that will carry coal, God knows what else and everything else that comes with it.
However, they can’t increase this traffic till the trestle has been upgraded and that trestle is on First Nation land (Train trestle replacement still awaits, Jan. 16).
I assume the Semiahmoo band knows this full well.
I also assume the band cares about our local ecosystem way more than we give them credit for.
What if the Semiahmoo First Nation is actually using this unique situation to do something very important?
What if they are stalling things long enough in a desperate attempt to buy the rest of us the precious time we need? Time crucial to have even a hope of winning the battle against the coal trains and whatever else they will attempt to push through.
