Plan now for their education

An open letter to parents of students at Laronde Elementary.

I realize we are all holding onto the hope we can overcome the concerns regarding the lack of enrolment to Laronde over the past few years and perhaps into the future.

As a parent of a child going into Grade 3 this fall, the last thing I want to concern myself with is the “year-to-year” worries of whether I will be having to make a decision to find another school. As parents, we have enough worries and enough decisions to make. As well, I don’t want to burden my child with the concerns that he may have to switch schools as he gets older and more established with his social and education surroundings.

My son is already aware of what is happening at Laronde – as I’m sure many children are – and he’s been asking many questions.

My primary responsibility as a parent is to ensure that my child gets his education and that he continues to do well with the educational opportunity that I provide him with.

As much as we love Laronde Elementary and would love to not have to change schools, we have no reason to remain loyal to Laronde.  I hope that Laronde can continue to have an English program and that children of the future in our community can have the choice of attending that school.

We have already filled out our school selection form to request Ocean Cliff Elementary, and we have already received approval to register our son for this September.

I encourage all parents to do what you believe is right for you and your family’s situation. That is all we have done for our family and we look forward to a fresh start at a new school this fall.
