Time to change our behaviour

The first weekend of April had me thinking of Earth Month as I walked my dog through Sullivan Park.

I walked by a parking stall where someone had dumped off their unwanted TV and a box of garbage. I walked by the garbage can stuffed with broken hockey sticks and the tennis court littered with drink containers.

And yes, I picked up the drink containers and put them in recycle.

I walked through the forest pathway where four bundles of a local newspaper had been dumped in the bushes instead of being delivered. I walked along the gravel pathway where plastic bags of dog poop hang off the branches of the blackberry brambles.

These are all individual acts that have a large environmental impact.

Earth Month is a time to inspire awareness and appreciate the environment.

Changing human behaviour is no walk in the park, but if individuals choose positive actions we will soon see positive results, in all our parks.
