The Abbotsford Canucks have signed major junior free agent forward Cooper Walker to a one-year American Hockey League contract.
The 20-year-old Walker recently completed his final season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm and served as the team’s captain in 2022-23. He finished the season with 21 goals and 51 points in 66 games. Walker added five points in six playoff games.
The 6-0, 174-pound centre skated in 179 regular season games during his major junior career in Guelph. During his three full seasons with the Storm, he recorded 94 points (38 goals, 56 assists) and 47 penalty minutes while recording six points (two goals, four assists) over 11 postseason games. Prior to this season he was the assistant captain for Guelph in the 2021-22 season.
Walker also attended the Detroit Red Wings rookie development camp in 2021, but was not offered a contract at that time.
He played one season of junior hockey with the Kitchener Dutchmen and played his minor hockey with his hometown Cambridge Hawks.
Walker is the son of Vancouver Canucks alumni Scott Walker, who played 197 games with Vancouver. He also served in multiple roles with the Vancouver Canucks coaching and development departments, most recently as assistant coach during the 2021-22 season.
