The BC Aquasonics Senior Team made a splash at the Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships Monday, taking the top spot in the national event.
The senior team, which features swimmers from Surrey, White Rock and Langley, beat their nearest competitor by a full 2.6 pounds at the championships held in Saskatoon, scoring a 74.5667 to win gold with their routine, "Atlantis."
The team is made up of White Rock's Mackenzy Higgins, Surrey's Anna Seiler, Madyson Stickley and Erin Williams, as well as Langley's Emilie Sadler, Abbotsford's Alanna Stobbe, Aldergrove resident Amy Whitton and Anmore resident Alexia Iten.
"We just won the National Championship by a landslide," Aquasonics head coach Susan Kemper said in a release. "In this sport, it can be just hundredths of a point that separate competitors. Not today, this team showed up for work and brought home gold."
