If you know an individual or an organization who takes issue with traditional notions about girls and women in sports and physical activity, the BC Summer Games ProMotion Plus leadership awards would like to know their name.

Nominations are now open to individuals, organizations or groups in the province of British Columbia that have challenged the traditional limits for women and girls in physical activity and sport in the past two years.

The award is a partnership between the BC Games Society and ProMotion Plus to identify, recognize and celebrate those who have supported girls and/or women to participate more fully in physical activity or sport.

“Abbotsford is a diverse sporting community and we welcome the opportunity to partner with ProMotion Plus and the BC Games Society to recognize the women and girls who are Rising Above and Reaching Beyond,” said Steve Carlton, president of the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games Society.

“We would like to encourage our community to nominate our champions of enhancing sport and physical activity for women and girls for this Provincial award.”

Nominations may include but are not limited to the achievements of athletes, teams, coaches, officials, administrators, or volunteers and programs or special events, which increased or enhanced opportunities for girls and women.

Nominators are asked to focus on the candidate’s achievements over 2014-2016.

The nomination form can be found here.

Nominations will be accepted until June 30. The award will be presented July 22.

ProMotion Plus is the British Columbia organization for girls and women in physical activity and sport. It was established as a non-profit society in 1990 and was unique in Canada at the time. ProMotion Plus is still only one of three provincial organizations in Canada dedicated to increasing opportunities for girls and women in the sport and recreation delivery system.

The Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games will take place from July 21-24, featuring 18 sports will at a total of 24 venues in Abbotsford and the surrounding area.
