Canadian Open: Canada beats USA 10-6, plays Japan for title game spot

Team Canada will play Japan Sunday night at Softball City, with a spot in the Canadian Open's gold medal game on the line.

The winner will move onto Monday's final at the Fastpitch International Championship, who goes at 7:30 p.m. on Diamond 1 at the South Surrey park. Canada is now guaranteed a medal after beating the United States on Saturday night, 10-6. Canada exploded for six runs in the fifth inning, with longtime star Jen Yee hitting a three-run homer to lead the way.

Joey Lye also had two RBIs for Canada, and B.C. local Sara Hopwood went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a .600 batting average.

Canada and Japan will tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The United States now awaits the winner of the White Rock Renegades and the NJCAA All-Stars, who are playing with the chance to advance on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.
