Coastal FC team aims to help

U11 Thunder to collect at Umbro Cup for local food bank and youngsters in Haiti.

When the Coastal FC U11 Thunder soccer team hosts the Umbro Cup Challenge next month, they'll be doing more than just playing soccer.

They'll also be helping needy children in Haiti, as well as families closer to home.

The team is organizing a food drive to benefit the food bank in White Rock and South Surrey, and also during the tournament –scheduled for the Victoria Day long weekend (May 18-20) – will be collecting gently worn soccer clothing, which will be donated to children in Haiti.

Members of Thunder have also made a video (www.bmosoccer.com/en/team?t=1108) that will be sent to all teams competing in the Umbro Cup, encouraging players to bring food and clothing donations to the tournament, which will be held at South Surrey Athletic Park. Girls from the team will be accepting donations at a drop-off tent throughout the weekend.
