Demico Hannoun’s Surrey Eagles’ homecoming was short-lived.
In fact, he won’t even get the chance to don the Birds’ jersey again, after he was dealt to the Penticton Vees earlier this month.
Hannoun had requested a trade once he found out Peter Schaefer would not be back coaching the Eagles this season.
Hannoun was a major part of the Eagles’ Royal Bank Cup-run during the 2012/13 season, but that offseason was shipped to the Vernon Vipers in order to complete a deal that saw Adam Tambellini sent to Surrey earlier in the season.
After one season in Vernon, the Vipers shipped Hannoun back to the Eagles in June, along with Ben Butcher. The duo were the “future considerations” in a January swap in which then-Surrey captain Brett Mulcahy went to Vernon.
On Aug. 13, Eagles’ new GM/head coach Blaine Neufeld sent Hannoun to Penticton in exchange for future considerations and the playing rights to defenceman Alexandre Coulombe, a Granby, Que. native who played 54 games for the Vees last season but is expected to play this year for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
