The high-school soccer season has come to an end for members of Earl Marriott Secondary’s junior boys squad.

Just days after winning a snowy, cold affair last week over Archbishop Carney Secondary in the first round of Fraser Valley championships, the South Surrey team was ousted from contention Monday at White Rock’s Centennial Park after a 3-2 semifinal loss to Charles Best Secondary – a team EMS coach Chris Fraser called a “provincial soccer power.”

Due to injuries and illnesses that came as a result of last week’s win in less-than-ideal weather conditions, Marriott was forced Monday to play without a handful of key players. Fraser told Peace Arch News he was only able to field about 60 per cent of the team’s usual roster, and even had to call up a pair of players from the school’s Grade 8/9 team.

It took Charles Best until the final minute of the game to score the winning goal.
