Eight winners of Coastal Cup final

The Delta Coastal Selects claimed the U13 Girls A Coastal Cup last month, blanking the Port Coquitlam Castilians 2-0 in the final.

The Selects didn’t concede a goal in the Coastal Cup tournament, winning three games by a 6-0 aggregate. They were one of eight local teams to win a Coastal Cup final.

All Coastal Cup finalists have qualified for provincial championships in July.

“This club dug down deep all season and played with determination and consistency. Their focus and perseverance was amazing,” said head coach Gordon McGahey.

The Coastal Cup finals in 22 age groups and categories were played April 26-27 in Richmond.

The win was one of two by the Delta Coastal club, which draws players from Surrey and Delta. The Delta Coastal Selects also won a Coastal Cup in the U14 Boys A group, edging the upper Vancouver Island Riptide 2-1.

The Delta Coastal Sting fell 1-0 to Surrey FC Pegasus in the U15 Girls A final, one of three Coastal Cup titles for the Surrey FC club.

Surrey FC Pegasus also won the U15 Boys A Coastal Cup final with a 2-0 win over Coquitlam Metro Ford United, while the Surrey FC Rangers edged KLM United 2-1 in the U14 Boys B Cup final.

The Surrey FC Ravens fell 1-0 to the South Burnaby Metro Strikers in the U15 Boys B Cup.

Surrey United also claimed three Coastal Cup championships. Surrey Guildford United edged Surrey FC Pegasus 5-4 in the U18 Boys A Cup, Surrey Guildford United got past the Burnaby Selects 3-2 in the U13 Boys A Cup final, and the Surrey United Elite claimed the U18 Girls B Cup title with a 2-1 win over Cliff Avenue United Picolo.

Other Coastal Cup finals involved local teams saw the Central City Breakers Elite defeat the Tsawwassen Blues 2-1 in the U18 Boys B Cup and the Coastal FC Royal ‘97 losing 3-1 to the Aldergrove Ambush in the U17 Girls C Cup.
