And then there were four.

The Surrey Fire Fighters Goodwill Classic basketball tournament – which began Monday with teams from across the city squaring off – is down to the semifinal round, with four senior girls squads left in contention.

Today at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary, the Tweedsmuir Panthers and Panorama Ridge Thunder will square off in one semifinal – tip off is 1:30 p.m. – while a pair of South Surrey rivals, Semiahmoo and Earl Marriott, will play in the other semifinal, at 3:30 p.m. also at Tweedsmuir.

The Panthers advanced to the today’s action after a 74-46 win over the Sullivan Heights Stars Thursday evening, while Panorama qualified for semifinals Wednesday after a victory over their Newton rivals, Tamanawis.

Semiahmoo – the province’s No. 1 ranked senior girls triple-A team – has rolled through the early portions of the tournament, winning each game by lopsided margins. They advanced to semifinals after a Wednesday victory over Holy Cross.

The two teams to emerge victorious from today’s semifinal games will play in the Fire Fighter final Saturday at Tweedsdmuir. Tip off is 4:15 p.m.
