A South Surrey golfer who began playing at the age of two, and started beating older players when he was 10, continues to be unfazed by age differences, posting strong performances in two recent tournaments this month.

Taylor Patrick, 13, won the Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin contest at the Dylan Reichelt Memorial tournament Aug. 13-14 at the Hazelmere Golf and Country Club, where he finished second in the boys’ 13-and-under category, and third overall in a field of players as old as 19, shooting a first round 70 and a second-round 76.

In the MJT Interclub competition based on net scores, Patrick and fellow Morgan Creek players Seo Ho Choi and Ji Sue placed second.

The two-handicap player then took on another collection of older players in the Morgan Creek junior club championship for 12-18-year-old players over the Aug. 25-26 weekend, finishing second behind Colton Dorion.

He plays every day to improve his game and his chances of obtaining a golf scholarship.
