Ladies Golf Day at Peace Portal Par 3 Golf Course in South Surrey was a success in more ways than one.
In addition to raising $25,000 for the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation and Avalon Women’s Centre White Rock, the Sept. 9 event was also a great way to get beginner women golfers involved in the sport.
“This is our second year,” said committee chair Carolyn Haley, who is also the controller at Peace Portal Par 3 Golf Course.
“Last year, there were 96 golfer and we raised $15,000. This year, there were 144 golfers and we raised $25,000, so we increased this year… I’m very pleased.”

She was a non-golfer when she started working at the course, Haley noted, but got more involved and eventually, helped organize the Ladies Golf Day fundraiser, intended to help give back to women “in our own neighbourhood.”
“I’m delighted and overwhelmed with the show of support from the community,” she said.
“It was wonderful to offer an event designed for beginner women golfers to build skills and interest in the sport, and at the same time raise funds that will assist women and families in our local area.”
The day featured LPGA golfer Linda Jervis, a Northview Golf Course pro who donated her time to the event, a silent auction that had nearly 80 items, wine, beer, and mocktail sponsors, and more.
