Loken, Burke share BC championship

Curlers claim provincial Juvenile Women’s curling crown

Two local curlers are members of a provincial championship team.

Sarah Loken has been a member of the Peace Arch Curling Club for four years, while Bailey Burke has been with the the Cloverdale Curling Club for five years. The two 15 year-olds were members of a group skipped by Heather Drexel of Coquitlam which won the recent Tim Horton’s B.C. Juvenile Women’s Championship in Lake Cowichan.

Team Drexel, with Loken playing third and Burke playing second, went 5-0 (won-lost) at the four-day competition. They have qualified for the Optimist U18 International Curling Championships in Edmonton April 1-5.

Other members of the team are lead Catera Park of Coquitlam and Delta’s Kylie Karoway as fifth. The coach is Al Smith of Peace Arch Curling Club.
