Memorial tournament held for young golfer

The Dylan Reichelt Memorial Tournament featured more than 70 golfers in a number of age divisions.

A golf tournament in memory of a young Langley golfer was held earlier this month at Hazelmere Golf Course, with a handful of Surrey golfers among the event winners.

The Dylan Reichelt Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour – of which Reichelt was a member – was contested Aug. 13-14, and featured more than 70 golfers in a number of age divisions.

Reichelt was killed in a car accident last November. His twin brother, Jesse, teed off the competition on Day 1, and finished fourth in the boys 17-19 year-old division, which was won by Surrey's Steven Hayes.

Hayes shot one under-par for the tournament, after rounds of 71 and 72.

In the girls tournament, South Surrey's Jamie Oleksiew – who golfs out of Hazelmere and will play next year at the University of Colorado – captured top spot after back-to-back rounds of 75 on a 5,279-yard layout.

In the boys 14-16 division, Surrey's Marcus Brown was victorious, shooting a two-round total of 147 (72-75) on a 6,401-yard course. He edged fellow Hazelmere member Edward Metcalfe for top spot.
