Jenna Richardson of Surrey has a goal today (Thursday) at the the Under-20 Women’s Cup, but it wasn’t enough to lift Canada to a victory.
With two local soccer players in their lineup, Canada lost a chance to advance to the playoff round of the 16-team tournament in Japan. Nicole Setterlund is also playing for Canada in Japan.
Richardson scored just before half time, taking a pass from Adriana Leon before beating the Norwegian goalie on a breakaway. Her goal in the 44th minute gaveg Canada a 1-0 lead at the break. Norway scored second half goals in the 52nd and 79th minutes for the 2-1 win.
Canada defeated Argentina 6-0 last Monday, and goes into next Monday’s final game of the group stage tied for second place with Norway, each with a win and a loss. While Canada is playing first-place South Korea, winners of both their games, Norway faces winless Argentina. Only the top two teams in each group move on to the playoffs.
