Hundreds of young softball players – along with coaches, parents, community members and other dignitaries – gathered Saturday afternoon at South Surrey's Sunnyside Park to officially ring in a new season of softball.

All SSWRMBA teams were represented – many of them performing team chants – and, under rainy skies took part in the association's annual parade.

As well, White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin and Surrey-White Rock MLA Gordon Hogg both spoke, and well-known White Rock singer Mark Donnelly – famous for his rendition of O Canada at Vancouver Canucks games and other community events – was also on hand to belt out the anthem.
