The Semiahmoo Scorpions earned a hard-fought, come-from-behind tie against the Vancouver Devils last weekend in U17 Gold soccer action.

The Scorpions were down 2-1, but tied the contest with just 10 minutes left in the game. Semiahmoo goals were notched by Keyanna Russell and Katarina Kyle.

Amy Cornish played well between the pipes for the Scorpions, while Ally and Lauren Robertson were “towers of strength” on defence, according to coach Bob Balneaves. Jaclyn Tatay and Ashley Simpson, both midfielders, also played well, Balneaves said.

Big win

The Semiahmoo Thrashers’ offence was in top gear Sunday, as the U18 Gold soccer squad beat Richmond 6-1 at South Surrey Athletic Park.

The Thrashers were led by the sister-combination of Megan and Lindsay Pistner; Megan had three goals while Lindsay potted two, including one on a penalty shot from 35 yards out.

Ashley McTaggart rounded out the scoring with a tally of her own.

In net, Tiffany Hordyk was solid, as were defenders Michelle Anderson and Emily Samson, and midfielders Viktoria Reiss and Paige Smith.
