The Semiahmoo U16 gold girls soccer finished with a perfect 4-0 record in the Arizona desert last month, at the Blackhawks Max Shacknai Invitational tournament.

In addition to squads from South Surrey – another Semiahmoo girls squad, the U16 Storm, won gold in the tournament, in the metro division – the tournament featured teams from throughout the western United States.

En route to the team’s four victories, Semi got goals from Abby Wells, Amy Vicic, Kailey Skemp, Amraj Brar, Tiffany Berry and Breanna Parks.

Goalkeeper Danika Koltai earned four shutouts with the help of defenders Alycia Nicholl, Prab Chahil and Hailey Card.

Semifinal victory

The Semiahmoo U18 Silver Vipers edged the Pitt Meadows Elite 4-3 in Coastal Cup semifinals last weekend at South Surrey Athletic Park.

The Vipers were led by Alex Luitec, who scored three goals, and Kelsey McDonald, who scored the winning goal on a free kick.

Ellena Benacchio, Katie Brown and goalie Heidi Gulka also shone in the one-goal victory.

With the win, the Vipers advance to play Squamish in the Coastal Cup finals April 1 in Chilliiwack.

Shutout win

Last weekend at South Surrey Athletic Park, the Semiahmoo U14 Gold Predators did what just three other teams have been able to do this season – beat the SurDel Snipers.

The Predators beat the Snipers 1-0, handing them just their fourth loss.

Predators’ forward Ashley Jacob scored the lone goal for the home team, while the defence was led by Tia Davison and Shalimar Barron.

Goalkeeper Claire Granger made a number of big saves throughout the game, none bigger than on a second-half penalty shot.

U20 squad

A pair of South Surrey soccer talents are wearing Canada’s colours on the pitch this month.

Jenna Richardson and Nicole Setterlund were both selected to play with Canada’s U20 women’s team after a two-week camp in Costa Rica last month.

The duo are currently in Panama City until March 12, as Canada participates in the CONCACAF U20 qualifying tournament.

Richardson plays for the NCAA’s Oregon State Beavers, while Setterlund plays for the Washington State Cougars. Two years ago, Setterlund captained Canada’s U17 team that won gold at the CONCACAF women’s championships in Costa Rica.
