A win by South Surrey residents Julia Ayre and Mike Zhang proved to be key to winning the Summer Junior Surrey/Delta Team Tennis League championship last week.
The Aug. 22 victory by the pair in mixed doubles action gave the Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club the edge over the Crescent Beach Swim and Tennis Club, four matches to three.
Participating clubs this year also included the White Rock Tennis Club and the Sunshine Hills Tennis Club from Delta.
Players ranged in age from 12 to 18.
It was the 28th year of the competition.
The team tennis league was created by White Rock resident and tennis coach Bruce Webster, who has been involved in White Rock and Surrey coaching programs for decades, including the White Rock Tennis Club, Crescent Beach Swim and Tennis Club, Surrey Parks and Rec as well as Hazelmere.
