The Semiahmoo midget A4 Ravens are in Lillooet this week, vying for a provincial hockey title, while Semiahmoo’s peewee A4 team is in Grand Forks, also seeking a B.C. banner.

The midget Ravens punched their ticket to the B.C. championships by losing just once in their last six playoff games.

The eight-team tournament began March 17; Semiahmoo was guaranteed at least four games. In addition to Semiahmoo – who are the Lower Mainland zone representatives – other teams taking part include Burns Lake (northwestern zone), Kelowna (Okanagan), Lillooet (hosts), Windermere Valley (east Kootenay) and Whitehorse (Yukon).

At the Grand Forks tournament – which wraps up today (Thursday) Semiahmoo is joined by Grand Forks, Vanderhoof, Prince George, Kelowna, Windermere Valley and Juan de Fuca.

Other south-end teams at provincials this week include Cloverdale’s midget A1 team and Surrey Female Hockey’s midget squad.

Atoms win Valley title

A tie with Langley last week was enough for the Semiahmoo Warriors to win a banner as Fraser Valley atom ‘C’ playoff champions.

The Semi Warriors capped their season with a 3-3 game against Langley C6 at Great Pacific Forum, and the one point gave the young Peninsula hockey squad enough points in the round-robin-style tournament to clinch top spot.

Semiahmoo’s Aidan Ashton opened the scoring in the final game – getting his team on the board 6:12 into the first period – but Langley responded with two goals in the second period to take a slim 2-1 lead into the third.

In the final frame, Langley made it 3-1 at the nine-minute mark, but Semi’s Alex Amos-Schappert scored to cut the lead to one. Then, with three minutes left to play, Amos-Schappert scored his second of the game to tie the score.

Langley made a late push for the winning goal, but each scoring chance was thwarted by Warriors goalie John Stewart Kacani.

As Semi had already clinched the banner with the single point, no overtime period was played.
