The White Rock tennis club may be small compared to its Metro Vancouver rivals, but it achieved big results at the recent BC Senior Games in Burnaby last month.
Club players won multiple medals, three gold, two silver and four bronze.
Club spokesperson Glen Friesen called the results “extraordinary,” one of the best Games outing for the club that he could remember.
“The quality of tennis they play is absolutely unbelievable,” Friesen enthused.
“They’re a delight to watch.”
Shirley Elcombe and Helge Jensen took gold in the mixed doubles for 75 and older players. Michael Clark won gold in the singles 65-plus competition.
Clark also took silver in mixed doubles 70 and up with teammate Colleen Torsky.
In mens’ doubles 65 and up, Ray Nielsen and John Payne took bronze, and a bronze-medal performance was also recorded by White Rock players in mens’ 75-plus action, with Joseph Incantalupo and Helge Jensen taking the stand.
