Semiahmoo Peninsula resident Mary Wright is a champion lawn-bowler many times over – provincial, national and beyond – but this week she is trying for an even better title:

A champion of champions.

The White Rock Lawn Bowling Club member is in Australia this week, competing in the 2017 World Singles Champion of Champion tournament. The event – which began Monday and runs until Nov. 5 in the Sydney suburb of St. Johns Park – features competitors from 24 countries.

No matter the results of this week’s event, it’s been another banner year for the well-decorated Wright. This past summer, she won a handful of medals from various provincial competitions – gold in singles and fours, and silver in senior triples – while also adding gold in mixed-pairs with Christie Grahame at a West Vancouver competition.

From there, she moved on to two Canadian championships, winning gold in mixed pairs in Pointe-Claire, Que., and also placing first in singles, which were held in Winnipeg.
