The flag-football season kicked off in a big way last weekend, with the White Rock-South Surrey Titans – and other associations from across the Lower Mainland – taking part in a jamboree-style Week 1 schedule in Coquitlam.

In total, the Titans fielded 29 teams – in a variety of age divisions – at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park. Each team played three to four games Saturday (April 23), with each game lasting 30 minutes. Other associations to take part were Richmond, New Westminster, Langley, South Delta, North Delta, Coquitlam, North Surrey and Cloverdale.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time in a number of years that the provincial flag-football season has been held.

“Saturday could not have been a better day of football for all players (and) coaches – we have waited two years for this!” Titans association vice-president Tina Giustino told Peace Arch News via email.

Week 2 action shifts to Cloverdale Athletic Park, with the same teams taking part. Week 3 games (May 7 and 8) will be hosted at John Oliver Park in Delta, and the following week, Newton Athletic Park will be the host location.

The seven-week season ends June 10-12, with provincial championships being hosted by the Titans at South Surrey Athletic Park.
