The White Rock-South Surrey Titans’ perfect season is intact, after the bantams scored a big win at provincial championships in Langley on the weekend.

The Titans – who were undefeated through the regular season and playoffs, and also won a Vancouver Mainland Football League banner – won a defensive slugfest Sunday at McLeod Park, edging the North Surrey Tigers, 14-12 to win the BC Community Football Association banner.

“Mission complete,” wrote head coach Ryan Quintana in an email to Peace Arch News, who added that the team knew North Surrey “was going to be a tough match up.”

The Titans’ VMFL championship win also came against North Surrey.

Though the Tigers kept control of the ball for long stretches of the game, Quintana noted, adding that the Titans’ defence “stood tall” in limiting them to just 12 points.

Offensively, quarterback Alexander McCrank threw for two touchdowns – one each to Carson McDonnell and Blake Simpson – as well as a pair of third-down conversions that Quintana called “crucial.”

White Rock’s Hudson Bromley was named the Titans’ most valuable player, while North Surrey’s Rylan Middleton was named MVP for his team.

Bromley, a running back, “had a very productive second half” en route to MVP honours.

For this Titans group, it is their second B.C. championship, having also won a junior-bantam title in 2019 with Quintana at the helm.

In addition to the Titans’ victory, there were two other championship games staged Sunday, and a day earlier, the province’s top nine-a-side teams squared off in another series of title games at the same location.

In the midget nine-a-side final, North Surrey defeated the Comox Raiders, 28-21.
