Expressing your inner child doesn’t always have to be a complicated process. It can be as simple as finding some paints, a canvas and some friends!

After all, as famed artist Bob Ross once said, “We don’t make mistakes. We just have happy accidents.”

It’s a philosophy close to the heart of Jennifer Findlay, who grew up in White Rock and is the owner of Creō Arts Studio – recently nominated for “Best Arts Studio” and “Best Kids Camp” in the Peace Arch News Readers Choice Awards. Findlay helps kids of all ages let loose and express themselves with affordable classes, workshops, drop-in’s and licensed school age camps at her inventive, original and vibrant space.

“I wanted to create a space for all ages to enjoy where they can unleash their creativity as well as a space where parents can drop off their kids for an art class, camp or workshop and feel secure knowing that they are having fun creating in a safe and engaging space” Findlay says.

6 reasons to check out Creo Arts Studio

  1. Kinder: Create and play – On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, from 9:30 -11:30 am, parents can drop in with infants to five-year-olds and enjoy creating and exploring with a variety of materials such as seasonal crafts, colouring, play dough painting in a fun, engaging & nurturing space. “Children will have access to our age-appropriate toys, games & library for when they want to move on to explore something new!” Findlay says.
  2. Friday night adult fun parties Sip +Paint classes 19+ – By popular demand, Creo is also hosting bi-monthly, Friday Night Sip + Paint classes. You’ll learn brush and colour mixing techniques and enjoy the meditative process of painting. Make it a date night, night out with friends or come solo! BYOB + S (bring your own beverage and snacks)!
  3. All-ages creative Sunday Creative Workshops – Two to three Sundays a month, Findlay features a different theme, from crafting to embroidery. Stay the whole three hours or for as little as 45 minutes.
  4. Home school and blended learning classes – “This is an exciting new mixed media art class program,” Findlay says. Designed for Grades 1 through 7 and starting Nov. 15, the program offers six sessions, meeting Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. Look for it to be continued in the spring if it’s popular!
  5. Senior Drop-in: Collage Art – Enjoy creative opportunities to use scrapbooks, visual memories and vision boards for the versatile medium of collage, Fridays between 10 a.m. and noon .
  6. Creative party possibilities: Creo offers arts-and-crafts parties for children ranging from age three to 13, and rental opportunities for adults, largely on evenings and weekends – custom parties for your needs, including your own catering plans. There are also options for birthday parties.
