Gerard passed away July 21, 2003 in White Rock, B.C. at Peace Arch Hospital. Gerard's sudden illness took him from us just days before his 73rd birthday. Given his youthful physical condition and positive mental outlook, his family and friends remain shocked and at a loss.
He will miss and be missed by his devoted wife, Reinhilde, two sons, Richard and Clifford, daughter-in-law, Katja, and three grandchildren, Matthias, Ben and Dayton.
Gerard's wide circle of friends will also need to ponder life's inequities to understand the circumstances that became their friend.
Gerard's most precious moments could be found either on a bicycle, dragging a number of fellow riders half his age along a quiet country road before dropping them on a climb or, behind a glass of robust Australian Cabernet debating political challenges.
A memorial mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church, July 29th, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. No flowers please, by request of family. Special thanks to the staff of Peace Arch Hospital's 4th and 6th floors for their care and respect.
