Joan Mary Digby Russell

January 7, 1910 – November 10, 2002. Joan’s family and friends came together on Saturday November 16 to celebrate her life of 92 years. The Service of Celebration was held at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 15115 Roper Ave. White Rock.

Family members are nephews Richard (Gerry) and Derek (Lena) Harris, great nieces and nephews Nicholas, Christopher, Rodney, Jason, Logan, Tyler, Philip, and Christine with great, great nephew and niece Kal and Dawson. Close friends include Robin Charlewood, Joan Sutcliffe, Marg Martin, Mary McDougall, and Marilyn Fane.

Joan was born in Rutland, B.C. and following high school, trained as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.

As a nursing sister n the Royal Canadian Navy, Joan served in Esquimalt, Halifax, and Greenoch, Scotland. In 1947, she entered the Provincial Public Health Service working in Parksville, Victoria, Vernon, Chilliwack and Surrey/Delta. Joan was heavily involved in the establishment of Adult Day Care Services. She was a Life Member of the Soroptimist International of White Rock.

In lieu of flowers, Joan has asked that donations be sent to Senior Support Services, or Adult Day Care, 15008 – 26 Ave., Surrey, B.C. V4P 3H5.
