Re: Bible camp cuts ties to Surrey pastor, Oct 18.

Your story has a disturbing focus. Why is this article sympathizing with and even complimenting the Bible camp at which some of these abuses are alleged to have taken place?

(Editor’s note: The article reports the Cowichan River Bible Camp severing ties to South Surrey’s Samuel and Madelaine Emerson, whose sexual-assault charges are now before the courts.)

Organizations that propagate sexual assault are not its victims; they are the problem. By focusing on the ways in which the camp is negatively affected by such crimes, you are drawing attention away from actual victims of abuse and removing the need for these organizations to be held accountable. Victims of sexual abuse do not need “prayers and support” from those who foster this abuse; they need any organization involved in the abuse to be held accountable.

Anything else only serves to foster and normalize this reprehensible crime.
