Stop running letters from ‘unhappy cranks’

Editor,

I’m very disappointed in how often the Peace Arch News runs letters to the editor filled with personal grievances.

This valuable space should be reserved for legitimate concerns about our community and not a venting space for unhappy cranks.

The latest exaggeration you deemed worthy for public consumption described Russell Avenue as “skid row” and was filled with outrageous claims about the three craft beer establishments on that street.

Absolutely disgraceful to describe any part of White Rock in such snobbish terms.

I’m in the uptown area on a daily basis, often at night, and I’ve never seen behavior remotely approaching what this person claims.

I’ve never seen anyone consuming alcohol beyond the patio space. I never had to walk in the street.

And I’ve never encountered a gang of drunken ruffians smoking in the park.

Those three establishments are all locally owned by people who care about the community.

They’ve been a boon to that part of town because they give people a reason to visit uptown besides nail salons and thrift stores.

This person is clearly a Russell Avenue resident with too much time on their hands. And if they don’t like living near bars or restaurants, they shouldn’t live in uptown!

Stop giving voice to these people and their ridiculous personal vendettas.

Sandy McDougall, White Rock
