Nico Wynd Golf Course has been busy lately – but not just with golfers enjoying the greens.

Brent Linberg, the chair of BC Golf’s Zone 3, paid a visit to the South Surrey golf course on Saturday (April 27) to present a plaque honouring a longtime volunteer: Brian Watt.

The plaque recognized 18 years of service to BC Golf by Watt, who was the Zone 3 treasurer and the chairperson of the Champion of Champions golf tournament, a Nico Wynd release notes.

The presentation was made in front of members of the Nico Wynd Men’s Golf Club, where Watt has been an active and longtime member — playing golf with the club twice a week and also a volunteer cancer driver — with members of Watt’s immediate family attending to accept the plaque on his behalf, as he was unable to attend.

The men’s golf club also continued their support of junior golf recently, with a $6,090 donation to support junior golf in Zone 3, which consists of golf courses and clubs in White Rock, South Surrey and other areas south of the Fraser River extending out to Hope.

The Nico Wynd Men’s Golf Club plays weekly 18-hole games on Saturdays and Tuesdays throughout the year with assured reservations at a time when golf tee times are difficult to book.

The Tuesday seniors group has a short waiting list, but there are a limited number of openings for the Saturday (over 19) group.

More information is available on the club’s website at nwmgc.ca or by emailing Dean at membership@nwmgc.ca
