Steve Scott has been named new publisher of the Peace Arch News and the Cloverdale Reporter, succeeding Dwayne Weidendorf, who has left the paper to pursue new business ventures.

The appointment was announced last week by Randy Blair, president of Black Press, B.C. Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island Divisions.

Scott, who will continue as advertising manager of the Peace Arch News, joined Black Press just under 11 years ago, following a career that began in the 1990s at the Yellow Pages, and included several years working with the Vancouver Sun and The Province.

Starting with the Surrey Leader – before it merged with the Surrey Now – Scott moved to the Peace Arch News in 2015.

“I have big shoes to fill, following Dwayne, but I’m looking forward to the challenges,” Scott said.

“I love our White Rock and South Surrey community, and working with the businesses and key stakeholders here.”

Scott served on the board of the South Surrey and White Rock Chamber of Commerce for two years, and also volunteers for the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s annual fundraising gala.

“I look forward to continuing to support the paper’s integral commitment to high standards of journalism and to continuing building relationships on the Semiahmoo Peninsula,” he said.

“The community has always been very supportive of the Peace Arch News – and we will always be the ‘voice’ of this community.”
