The BC Cancer Agency is urging women to get screened for cervical cancer during Pap Awareness Week

The BC Cancer Agency is urging women to get screened for cervical cancer by getting a Pap test during Pap Awareness Week, Oct. 23-29.

A Pap test is used to collect a sample of cells from the cervix which is then checked for any abnormal changes; Pap Awareness Week highlights the importance of regular screening.

Since the introduction of the program, cervical cancer rates have dropped by 70 per cent.

Women who have been putting off getting tested are encouraged to visit LACECampaign.com for a list of clinics that are offering easy access to screening. During last year’s campaign, 16 per cent of women tested had never had a Pap before, and about 50 per cent were overdue.
