Citizen science

Workshop planned for this month to train volunteers on Peninsula beach habitats.

Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society is aiming to foster ownership of the Peninsula’s beaches through training volunteers to map and survey the important habitats.

For those interested in getting involved, a weekend Shorekeepers workshop is planned for May 15-17, and includes class time at the South Surrey Rec Centre, as well as field work at White Rock’s West Beach. Further “citizen science” opportunities will follow in June and early July.

Shorekeepers is designed to enable those who may not have a strong science background to be able to contribute to scientific data collection. For more information or to sign up, email Sharon at mshiker4@gmail.com
