A little bit of rain was no deterrent to participants at the Ocean Park Community Orchard's planting event Saturday.
Organizers said around 150 enthusiastic volunteers turned out for to the orchard – on city land located at 12815 22 Ave. – to learn more about the community-initiated effort, take in planting demonstrations and help plant trees, shrubs and bulbs.
"We planted 34 trees, 2,300 bulbs and numerous berry bushes and only had a bit of drizzle," Linda Stanley Wilson said by email.
The orchard was approved by the city last July, about a year after the idea took took root.
