Get craic-ing

The White Rock Irish Club are looking for new members.

Calling all Irish: members of the White Rock Irish Club are looking for you.

In the hopes of increasing membership, the club is hosting an open house Jan. 22 at the Elks Hall, 1469 George St.

"It's just lovely to connect with people from Ireland," said club secretary Deirdre O'Ruairc, who's been a member for about seven years. "It's nice to have an organization where we can all come together."

Set for 3-5 p.m. at the Elks Hall, the event is described as a social network afternoon – complete with music, food and good craic.

While largely social-based, the club also rallies around members in times of need or illness, O'Ruairc noted.

An annual membership is $10 per family. There is no cost to attend the open house.

The next club event is scheduled for Feb. 24. Thank God for the Irish (4-8 p.m. at the Elks Hall) is "a gathering for anybody who is Irish, wants to be Irish, wants to hear Irish music," O'Ruairc said.
