An emergency preparedness fair in Ocean Park spearheaded by a local community group attracted dozens of local residents earlier this month.

The May 7 event at Ocean Park Hall included safety representatives from BC Hydro, Primary Care First Aid, City of Surrey’s Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program, Forager Foundation, Surrey Search and Rescue, Schill Insurance and Ocean Park Fire Hall.

The fair was spearheaded by Ocean Park Community Association board member Clarence Giesbrecht, who told Peace Arch News last month he was putting together a preparedness plan for the neighbourhood in the event of a major earthquake.

The earthquake response plan is now complete and posted online at www.oceanparkvillage.com

Giesbrecht also organized a bulk order of emergency preparedness kits for neighbourhood residents, and said the amount of kits ordered was three-times as large as anticipated.
