A former air-force pilot was honoured for his 50 years of dedication to legions across Canada last month.

Robert Fritzke, 96, was honoured with the 50-year ordinary medal and pin at the 2014 Honours and Awards ceremony at the Royal Canadian Legion White Rock Branch 008 in late May.

The Vietnam war veteran was one of eight siblings who joined the armed forces between 1935-1955.

“Out of 13 of us, eight joined the armed forces,” he said. “I’ve got to think that has to be a record for any family in a 20-year period.”

After serving his country, Robert Fritzke became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and has been a long-standing member since 1964.
