Mental-health award for Skawski

Surrey's Jolene Skawski was named third-place winner in #15seconds4change social media contest.

Surrey's Jolene Skawski was named third-place winner in a recent social-media contest aimed at reducing the stigma attached to mental-health challenges.

Skawski's submission to the contest, hosted by Speak Up for Mental Health,  was one of 130 entries from across the province, and described her feelings after a stressful event and how little things, such as a sunset, can change her perspective.

"Changing the way we talk about mental health needs to start somewhere, and I was very excited to see it happening over social media," Skawski said in a news release.

First place in the #15seconds4change contest, held through photo-sharing website Instagram, was won by Victoria's Laura Weston; second place went to Sarah Salmon of Abbotsford.
