On a Sunday afternoon at a Surrey gym, close to 200 volunteers wrapped and sorted some 2,600 Christmas gifts for donation to students in local inner-city schools.
City Dream Centre’s gift-wrapping effort happened Dec. 10 at Pacific Academy, in Fraser Heights.
In December, the charitable organization’s Adopt a School program includes a Christmas Project that distributes gifts and food hampers to Surrey-area families in need.
City Dream Centre was established in Surrey following a visit to the Los Angeles Dream Center by Loretta Hibbs, founder and president. The facility in California is focused on “providing support to those affected by homelessness, hunger, and the lack of education through residential and community outreach programs.”
Hibbs said it’s “an honour to bring these kids tangible proof that they are loved, and that Christmas is inclusive, regardless of their culture or religious beliefs,” she’s quoted in a news release.
“City Dream Centre is committed to ensuring that hope, dignity, and value exist for everyone.”
Throughout the year, Surrey’s City Dream Centre provides food hampers, Christmas gifts, clothing, dental services and more to kids and families living below the poverty line. Donations can be made on the website citydreamcentre.com/adopt-a-school.
