It wasn’t fool’s luck that brought Camp Alexandra their much-needed van, rather a helping hand from a community organization.

The camp received a financial boost from the Rotary Club of South Surrey, who raised $7,500 for the non-profit organization through their annual Fools Night Out event held in March.

While the van is a welcome way to support the camp, the funds were initially intended for a capital renovation of the camp, said club president Stuart Wilson.

“We soon realized that the funds raised would only scratch the surface of the renovations needed and that more fundraising would need to occur before Camp Alexandra could move forward,” he said. “We decided to look for another project so that the camp could make use of these funds sooner, rather than later. This is when the idea for a van came up.”

The decision to support Camp Alexandra came after a recommendation from the rotary club’s fundraising committee, after sorting through requests from local associations.

“We try and support different needs each year,” Wilson said.

This is the third van that the Rotary Club of South Surrey has funded. In previous years, members have helped fundraise for two vans for Source’s Food Bank.
