SENIORS SCENE: Book fall and winter excursions now

The White Rock Recreation and Culture Guide is now on line at whiterockcity.ca/register. The guide can also be picked up at the Kent Street Activity Centre, White Rock Community Centre or Centennial Park Leisure Centre.

There are so many programs and activities to try this fall. Excursions are back in full swing so be sure to check out all the exciting destinations we will be exploring.

• Registration begins on Monday Aug. 22 at 8:30 a.m. You can register online at whiterockcity.ca/register, by phone 604-541-2199 or in person at the Kent Street Activity Centre, White Rock Community Centre and Centennial Park Leisure Centre.

• Do you enjoy playing carpet bowling or have you been thinking about giving it a try? Every Wednesday and Friday morning from 10 a.m. until noon, drop down to the Kent Street Activity Centre and enjoy a friendly game or two. This activity group invites new members to check them out anytime. Remember, you can drop into any Kent Street Activity group three times as a guest before purchasing a membership.

• There are still a few spots available for an end of the summer excursion to A Rocha’s Brooksdale Environmental Centre and farm. On Wednesday, Aug. 24, discover new tips and tricks for gardening in small spaces and how you can include local seasonal produce in your meals. After the workshop, enjoy lunch in this beautiful outdoor setting.

• If you are not a fan of exercising in the hot weather, White Rock Recreation and Culture has lots of indoor fitness opportunities to try. Check out the fitness gym at White Rock Community Centre or find an exercise class that best suits your needs and interests. All in air-conditioned comfort. • For The Health Of It – a Health and Wellness Event for seniors in the community is returning to the White Rock Community Centre on Saturday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The theme for this year’s event is re-energize, re-engage and re-connect, and features engaging speakers, a resource fair and active “try it sessions. For more information or to register, call 604-541-8653 or email admin@comfortkeepersvancouver.ca

• Volunteer drivers are needed to take seniors on day excursions this fall. Enjoy free meals and admission to a variety of fun destinations and events. Class 2 or 4 driver’s license required. Call 604-541-2231 for more.

• The next summer TD free outdoor Concert is tonight (Aug. 18) at Five Corners. Bring your own chair to secure a spot and enjoy the sounds of Barracuda (Heart tribute). Visit concertsatthepier.com for more information.
