SENIORS SCENE: Stay active and out of the heat this month

Health, fitness activities planned this month

On Saturday, Sept. 22, from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the White Rock Community Centre, seniors in the community are invited to attend “For the Health of It”.

This annual information fair is for seniors interested in learning more about living longer, healthier lives.

Activities include presentations by some amazing community health and wellness speakers, active “try it” classes, a resource fair, snacks, door prizes and more. Call 604-541-8653 to register for this free event.

Are you looking to get out of the hot weather and into an air conditioned building where you can still be active?

Why not drop into carpet bowling and meet new friends as you participate in a fun activity? Enjoy this exciting game of skill and strategy every Wednesday and Friday through August, 10 a.m. until noon at the Kent Street Activity Centre. Call 604-541-2231 for more information, or to pick up a guest pass that will allow you to participate three times before purchasing a membership.

The next Concert at the Pier will not actually be at the pier, but at Five Corner in uptown White Rock on Aug. 11.

From 7-10 p.m., enjoy the great music from three tribute bands. Abra Cadabra is a tribute to the music and magic of ABBA and The Piano Man is a tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John. Free admission!

The White Rock Recreation and Culture fall recreation guide will be online Wednesday, Aug. 15 at www.whiterockcity.ca/register.

Take your time looking through the many programs and activities planned for September through December. Member registration begins on Friday, Aug. 24 and non-member registration starts Aug. 29. Copies of the fall guide will also be available to pick up at all White Rock Recreation Centres beginning Aug. 20.

Kick start your morning with the popular stretch-and-strength 55-plus class.

The Kent Street Activity sing-a-long group is still getting together during the summer months. Drop in to the classroom in the centre at 2 p.m. on Aug. 14 or 21 and be prepared to sing along to some fabulous tunes with this friendly, welcoming group.
