Soroptimist International White Rock joins partners in career fair for girls

Soroptimist International of White Rock is partnering with the organization’s Surrey/Delta chapter for a second Dream It-Be It career fair for girls, scheduled for Feb. 10 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Newton Campus.

The first was held at the campus in January of last year.

Aimed at providing access to professional role models, career education, and resources, the free conference is geared toward secondary school students aged 15 to 19 who identify as female, transgender, and non-binary.

Women and girls from a variety of careers, occupations and trades will speak about their career choices, how they got there, and what obstacles they overcame.

Also offered will be an overview of their education and career journey, along with resources and volunteer opportunities that may benefit attendees.

Co-emcees for the day will be Rochelle Thomas, Professor, University Canada West/Program Manager, UNA - Canada and confidence coach Michele Partridge, a White Rock city councillor.

Keynote speaker Leanne Waddington, of KPU, will also share her stories of motivation, challenges, and successes, while the conference will allow time for attendees to speak individually with career women from all walks of life.

The event will run from 8:30 a.m to 3 p.m., with registration opening at 8:30 in the Spruce Atrium at KPU, 12666 72 Ave., Surrey, B.C.

Lunch will be provided, as well as door prizes and swag, while KPU is also offering a door prize of a $1,000 tuition certificate to an eligible student who intends to attend KPU.

For the event, SI of White Rock – chartered in 1950 – is being assisted by funding partners the Soroptimist Foundation of Canada, KPU and the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society
