Dedicated space is finally ready to welcome Peninsula youth who’ve been waiting for a safe, sober and inclusive place to call their own.
Members of the Youth Collective will launch the Youth Space at Sunnyside Hall (1845 154 St., in Bakerview Park) Friday, with an event for those aged 13 to 24 years old.
The group was established in 2012, and began lobbying for funding for the space in 2014, when they asked both Surrey and White Rock council for support.
Those proposals were both rejected, however, discussion on finding an alternative solution continued.

The effort is supported by Alexandra Neighbourhood House, as well as by Peace Arch Hospital Foundation and Coast Capital Savings. PAHF funded a Youth Space organizer and intern position; CCS funded the Kitchen Table Drop-in Project, for youth aged 16-24 who are transitioning to adulthood.
Friday’s event runs 5-9:30 p.m.
is to include a barbecue, local bands, a Polaroid photo booth, food and door prizes. Youth can also learn how to DJ, do airbrush graffiti and try button making.
Starting Monday, the space will be open five days a week for youth “to connect, create and innovate.”
