Peninsula-based Amazing Tutors Children’s Foundation donated a van full of much-needed items to the Surrey Urban Mission last month.
The group collected clothes, blankets, jackets, track suits and socks with its second annual clothing drive in December.
On Dec. 30, a team from the foundation dropped off a van full of items to the shelter.
“Through our Amazing Tutors’ Children’s Foundation, we believe in creating a greater difference in our community by providing ample opportunities for youth and adults to develop, discover, empower, motivate and enhance their lives through quality educational, recreational and social experiences,” said Suzanne Hayat, the director of the foundation, said in a news release.
The Surrey Urban Mission is the largest homeless shelter in Surrey. More than 70,000 meals were served in 2014 by the volunteer-based staff.
The shelter still requires $340,000 to pay their mortgage and will be hosting The Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser in Surrey on Feb. 21.
A Coldest Night fundraiser will also be held in White Rock, hosted by Sources Community Resource Society.
The goal for that fundraiser is $80,000.
