Surrey is holding a two-day party to celebrate Earth Day this year at Central City Plaza.

On April 15 and 16, the City of Surrey is kicking off its first Party for the Planet, a free event headlined by Spirit of the West. Other musical talent includes En Karma, Aidan Knight, The Freshest, Hannah Georgas and Dirty Radio.

The event will include a visit from Sesame Street’s Elmo, Canada’s first-ever bike-powered main stage and Surrey’s first green zip line and aerial element system – a carbon-neutral, physical and physiological adventure.

Party for the Planet will also showcase Surrey’s first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) waste collection truck.

“Enviro-Activity Zones” on site will include: Agriculture Alley, Community Corridor, Energy Avenue, Nature Nook, Transportation Trail and First Nations Village. These will profile organizations such as Nature Matters, Surrey Nature Centre, Orphaned Wildlife Rescue (OWL), Vancouver Planetarium, Telus World of Science, BC Chicken Growers, and BC Hydro Power Smart.

Family fun features will also be on site, such as Salmon Life Cycle Obstacle Course, Where’s Wildlife Interpretive Forest, Birds of Prey demonstration, Scavenger Hunt Straw Maze, Star Lab, and Poultry in Motion Educational Mini Barn.
