Surrey’s 16th-annual Relay for Life fundraiser took place on June 17, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., at the Bill Reid Millennial Amphitheatre in Cloverdale. Dozens gathered, bedecked in superhero-themed gear, to walk in a relay to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

The 12-hour fundraising event brings teams together that participate in an all-day relay. One team member walks the track at all times, and participants take turns switching off whenever they wish. As well as raising money for cancer research, the Relay for Life supports services for people living with cancer and their families.
This year’s event in Surrey raised about $84,000, which is short of organizers’ goal of $100,000.
Donations towards their goal are welcomed until Aug. 1. For more information on the event or to donate, visit relayforlife.ca.
